Northern Essex Community College is pleased to serve as the Northeast Region of the Center for Business and Industry. The continuing goal is to contribute to the creation of a highly trained and skilled workforce through expanded training opportunities for both public employees and citizens in our service area.

The following courses are currently being offered through the Center for Business and Industry office and being sponsored and paid for by the Office of Faculty and Staff Development for employees at NECC to attend.

Intro. to Computers 1st Time, Monday, 10/19/09, 9:00-4:00:
This course is designed for the "pure beginner." You will start with a guided tour through operating the hardware, including using the keyboard, mouse, disks, printers and much more. Learn the basics of working in MS Windows. Understand the start menu, "My Computer," folders, file management and the desktop. Get your first exposure to cyberspace, including the Internet and the World Wide Web, browsers, search engines, and email. Intro. to Computers: Novice, Monday, 11/16/09, 9:00-4:00:
Designed for the new user who has spent some time with PCs. Learn how to use MS Windows accessories to manage and configure your PC. Understand the control panel to customize the user interface including mouse activities, display screen settings and adding and removing software. Learn basic troubleshooting, fundamentals of Microsoft Office, and how to protect your PC locally and in cyberspace. Download and install software from the web. Discover the necessities of your computer's health, including temperature, power and backup strategies. Bring your questions and PC problems with you. Making the Switch to Office 2007, Monday, 10/5/09, 9:00-12:00, OR Friday, 11/13/09, 1:00-4:00:
For the first time, Microsoft has made major changes to the well known Menu and Toolbar interface in Microsoft Office. If you have been using Office 2003 or earlier, but now or soon will need to transition to the new Office 2007 system, this timesaving workshop will get you up to speed. With 2003 and 2007 both installed, we will demonstrate (and you will perform) common tasks in the four major Office applications to show how to use the new Ribbon interface to accomplish tasks you currently perform in an earlier Office version. Managing Your Documents, Spreadsheets, Photos and Other Computer Files, Friday, 10/16/09, OR Tuesday, 12/8/09, 9:00-4:00:
One of the computer's biggest assets is that it gives you the ability to modify and reuse previously created work. Much of the time and effort you put into creating something, (a document, spreadsheet, presentation, database, etc) gets wasted if you can't easily find it again when you need it. Prevent losing work by using techniques covered in this seminar to create, maintain and back up your own computer file system utilizing Windows file management tools. <<Register for this class>>

Learn how to edit and format documents while creating letters, resumes, flyers, etc. with the most popular word

Using Excel Pivot Tables, Monday, 10/5/09, 1:00-4:00:
Consolidate and analyze your Excel data with a PivotTable. This 3 hour hands-on seminar will demonstrate how to transform lists of data into concise useful interactive summary reports that make it easy to visualize, use, and present your information. Moving Data: Excel to Access, Friday, 11/13/09, 9:00-12:00:
While Excel has some useful database features, your Excel database may have reached the point where you need a true Relational Database Management System (DBMS). This workshop will show how to easily migrate or link your data to an Access database, giving you the powerful user-friendly data entry, querying and reporting tools of Microsoft Access. You will learn advanced techniques such as: querying with SQL; using crosstab, parameter, and action queries; creating and running macros; importing, exporting, and linking database objects; optimizing, replicating, and synchronizing databases; and basic database security.   • Take exit 48, Ward Hill/Bradford off Route 495 (N or S) in Haverhill.
  • Bear right off the exit.
  • Stay in the right lane.
  • Go through two sets of lights, at the third light bear right onto Osgood St. (Rt. 125 south) toward No. Andover.
  • Proceed approx. 1 mile. Osgood Landing at 1600 Osgood St. is on the right (formerly Lucent Technologies).
  • Do not park in front lot.
  • Go through the blinking yellow light, at the next light take a right into the South Entrance road (across from Shell/Dunkin Donuts).
  • Proceed straight past first lot to the second parking area on the right.
  • Proceed into the building by following the NECC signs.
