Northern Essex Community College is pleased to serve as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Northeast Regional Training Center for its Human Resource Division. The continuing goal is to contribute to the creation of a highly trained and skilled workforce through expanded training opportunities for both public employees and citizens in our service area.

The following courses are currently being offered through the Center for Business and Industry office and being sponsored by the Office of Faculty and Staff Development for employees at NECC to attend.

Basic Computer Skills, Tuesday, 2/12/08, 9:00-4:00:
This basic course is designed to educate the beginner in the concepts of personal computers and its uses in the workplace and home use. Topics will include Windows, files, mouse skills, desktop navigation and an introduction to software applications. Time permitting, there will be a brief tour of the World Wide Web. Learn to create a logical electronic file system that will save you time for both home and/or office. Never again say, “I know I filed it somewhere, but I can’t find it!” Includes topics such as back-ups, file and folder creation, deletion, move, copy. Introduction to Word 2003, Tuesday, 2/26/08, 9:00-4:00:

Introduction to Excel 2003, Tuesday, 3/4/08, 9:00-4:00:
Learn how to edit, format and create worksheets, work within a workbook with multiple worksheets, and perform calculations. Excel can be used to maintain budgets or small business finances. Learn how to store, locate, and print just about any type of important information, such as addresses, birthdays, etc. Create tables, relationships, custom data entry forms, queries, reports, and mailing labels. You will learn advanced techniques such as: querying with SQL; using crosstab, parameter, and action queries; creating and running macros; importing, exporting, and linking database objects; optimizing, replicating, and synchronizing databases; and basic database security. Understanding Behavioral Styles, Friday, 4/25/08, 9:00-1:00:
Understanding your behavioral style allows you to gain insights into how others perceive you. It enables you to improve your ability to communicate and be an effective team member. Understanding the behavioral styles of others helps you to be a more effective leader and release higher levels of motivation in the work team. The DISC assessment tool will be used.   • Take exit 48, Ward Hill/Bradford off Route 495 (N or S) in Haverhill.
  • Bear right off the exit.
  • Stay in the right lane.
  • Go through two sets of lights, at the third light bear right onto Osgood St. (Rt. 125 south) toward No. Andover.
  • Proceed approx. 1 mile. Osgood Landing at 1600 Osgood St. is on the right (formerly Lucent Technologies).
  • Do not park in front lot.
  • Go through the blinking yellow light, at the next light take a right into the South Entrance road (across from Shell/Dunkin Donuts).
  • Proceed straight past first lot to the second parking area on the right.
  • Proceed into the building by following the NECC signs.
