National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) Massachusetts Consortium

We are pleased to announce that five community colleges in Massachusetts (Northern Essex Community College, North Shore Community College, Bunker Hill Community College, Massasoit Community College and Middlesex Community College) have developed a National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) consortium.

We began developing our Consortium in 2005. While each college is in a different stage of development, we are all enthusiastic about our collaborative efforts to build a Massachusetts NCBI Consortium. Each college has also worked closely with NCBI Director of Campus Programs, Robert Dungey, who has provided guidance in our work.

As we grow and learn from each other, each college has reached out to support the teams of newer NCBI affiliates by providing training, sharing facilitators, providing meeting spaces, resources and a semi-annual NCBI retreat. In addition, the three-day “Train the Trainer” workshops are offered every two years (one at Cape Cod Community College in 2007, the other at Middlesex Community College in 2009).

As a Massachusetts NCBI Consortium, we provide support to facilitators at the five colleges by offering the following:

• Assistance and support for the One-Day Model and introduction to NCBI
• Ensure that the three-day NCBI Train the Trainer program is offered in Massachusetts every other year in order to qualify NCBI facilitators from each institution to provide workshops on campus
• Provide a semi-annual one-day meeting for Massachusetts NCBI facilitators
• Provide facilitators the opportunity to visit consortium colleges and assist with workshops
• Monthly consortium planning conference calls with Robert Dungey
• The development of a Blog to share information
